"My experience abroad has helped me grow personally by challenging me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new perspectives." Read the full interview here.
Why did you choose to go abroad?
I chose to go abroad because I wanted to gain valuable international experience that would give me a competitive edge in my field. I believe that exposure to different cultures, work environments, and industry practices will not only broaden my perspective but also help me bring back new insights and skills to my home country, making me more effective and innovative in my career.
How does the US culture differ from your culture and what has impressed you most so far?
The US culture differs from Philippine culture in its emphasis on individualism, independence, and personal achievement, whereas in the Philippines, family and community play a central role. One thing that has really impressed me is the diversity and openness in the US, where different backgrounds and ideas are embraced, fostering innovation and growth. I’ve also noticed a strong focus on opportunities for personal and professional development, which has been inspiring as I navigate my own journey here.

Sure! My typical day starts with waking up early to get a jumpstart on the day. I have a light breakfast, like coffee or tea with toast or fruit, before heading out for work. Once I’m at work, I focus on completing tasks, attending meetings, and working on projects. I make sure to take short breaks to stay refreshed and productive. In the evening, I like to unwind by exercising, spending time with friends, or enjoying some quiet time with a good book or TV show. Before bed, I reflect on my day and get ready for the next one.

My experience abroad has helped me grow personally by challenging me to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new perspectives. Being in a different country has taught me how to adapt to diverse environments, manage challenges independently, and develop stronger problem-solving skills. I’ve also learned the importance of being open-minded and resilient, as I’ve encountered different ways of thinking and working. This journey has not only made me more self-confident but has also deepened my understanding of myself and the world around me.
Why would you recommend others to do a program abroad?
If you could express your experience in three words, what would these be?
Transformative, enriching, eye-opening.
